Needs Assessment Study in 10 Districts of Telangana
Concern India Foundation, a non-profit established in 1991, focuses on developmental causes across India, empowering disadvantaged communities in education, health, and community development. With 33 years of impact, the foundation has reached 6.2 million individuals across 16 states. Recently, Concern India, commissioned by ReNew Wind Energy and ReNew Sun Renewables, conducted a Need Assessment Study in 16 villages across 10 districts in Telangana. The study aimed to understand the socio-economic status, infrastructure, health, education, livelihood, and energy challenges in these areas. Key findings revealed that 90% of the 6241 households are below the poverty line, with agriculture as the main occupation. Education infrastructure is poor, with long travel distances to schools. Health concerns include alcoholism, tobacco use, and vector-borne diseases. Despite having tap water for household use, villagers rely on bottled water for drinking. Sanitation issues persist, with open defecation due to the lack of public toilets. Energy supply is unreliable despite 100% electric connection, and solar street lights have been appreciated. Employment opportunities are limited, leading to youth migration, and there is a need for upskilling and coaching. The study calls for strategic interventions to address these challenges and improve living conditions.
